I don't know much about Java, I'm a flash guy, and I know I have to have the JDK.  So, yes I *can* tell you that.

Our goal from day 1 is to make sure that using Red5 for FLASH developers is as easy as possible.  If someone knows Flash and Java, great.  But it's never been our intention to force Java knowledge on a flash developer to use Red5 - COMPLETELY the contrary.  And I've not seen anything yet that makes me think we'll need to change that goal.

Just because I know the difference between JRE and JDK, does not make me a "familiar" with Java.  It just means I spent an afternoon beating my head against the wall until I figured out what the problem was.  Hence a need for good documentation ;)

Yes, you have to distinguish JDK from JRE. JRE is a runtime, JDK is Java
Developer's Kit that contains everything to build applications. When you
run server target from Ant script you actually execute _compilation_
thus you need libraries.

I know what I need to add to my tutorial, thank you John.

P.S. Don't tell me that Flash coders don't have to know a thing about
Java. They even can't tell JDK from JRE (no offense) and try to work
with quite complex Java app that Red5 is.
