Hi Steven,
The FLV files range in size from 273 MB to 421 MB - so they are quite
large in comparison to other things we've been working with, and like I
said, probably outside the realm of other testing at the moment. They're
all encoded at around 400 kbps and have durations from 90 minutes to two
hours, the On2 VP6 codec, with MP3 audio, converted from digital video,
automatic keyframes, and dimensions of 640x480.
The .meta files average about 2980 lines per FLV to indicate keyframes,
as opposed to the two supplied sample clips, with have about 155 and 75
lines. They range from about 130K to 230K in size on disk.
I suspect that some sort of lock/unlock collision is happening when two or
more clients attempt to view - and mostly if they seek - through the same
file at the same time. The "two second" halt in initial playback (after
this condition has been triggered) somewhat corresponds to the duration of
time in each video where the first keyframe entry tends to appear in the
.meta file around a timestamp of:
<KeyFrame position="594" timestamp="38"/>
In my testing, if I'm fast enough to pause the video right at the initial
point of playback, I can seek to other keyframes in the FLV and see them
displayed in the video container, but it will never resume actual
playback. By not pausing it, but reloading the same FLV or a different
FLV, it will just play the first two seconds or so, then halt.
The Red5 server does not die completely - you can just keep doing this all
day long, only seeing the first two seconds of any clip through the
oflaDemo application. It has to be restarted, and then things work
again.
So until you create the condition again by having two clients viewing and
seeking through the same FLV at the same time - and this will work for
about 10-15 minutes before one of the clients loses the stream (the other
client, if they're not seeking and just observing playback, can continue
to do so without a problem, as well as seek around for a while) but it
eventually goes into the two second "halt" mode again for any client once
one client has caused this problem.
Hope that is slightly helpful, please ask more if there's something I've
left out. If there is some kind of logging that I can turn on that
would perhaps capture useful things, please let me know - I just have
the default logging to the red5.log file and that doesn't say much
(except for the unhandled pings when a FLV is started for playback.)
=)
Nathan
p.s. And excellent work so far! I really love what Red5 can do already,
so I apologize for pushing it a bit unreasonably at this point in time.
