If ever a man deserved this kind of money (apart from me, that is) it's Sir Alex.
Dave Blatt THE amazing details of Sir Alex Ferguson's new Manchester United deal can be revealed today, writes STEVE BATES. Talks on a new contract for the 61-year-old Scot will centre on a 96,000-a-week basic package earning him a guaranteed 5million a year - more than any United player. But that super salary is just a starter for the Old Trafford general, who has won 17 trophies in a reign spanning 17 years next month. Bonuses would include the 10,000 he and the players received for beating Panathinaikos in the Champions League group phase recently, plus 250,000 for winning the Premiership. Add on 500,000 if United lift the European Cup in Germany next May and Ferguson could earn close to 6m, eclipsing the 5.3m banked by Europe's best-paid chief Marcello Lippi. Negotiations between Ferguson's lawyers and United's new chief executive David Gill are already under way to add an extra two years to a contract with two years still to run. It will put Ferguson in charge until 2007 and a United insider said last night: "This will be the definitive contract for Sir Alex." ------------------------ Yahoo!
