ALEX FERGUSON has been told there will be no cash for him to splash when the transfer window opens in January.
Manchester United boss Fergie is eager to add strength in attack to keep up with big-spending Premiership rivals Chelsea. Fulham striker Louis Saha, West Ham hotshot Jermain Defoe and Sao Paulo marksman Luis Fabiano have been earmarked as long-term strike partners for Old Trafford goal machine Ruud van Nistelrooy. But chief executive David Gill, speaking ahead of today�s United AGM, insisted: �If it ain�t broke, don�t fix it. �I don�t think we will be going into the transfer market in a big way in January. �We developed the squad in the summer so we�d be challenging for all the honours and we are challenging, so why would we want to make big changes in January?� Gill, who will announce yearly profits of �39.3million, added: �I think whatever we do in January will be consistent with previous seasons. �The manager doesn�t normally do major transfer work in mid-season even before we had the window.� It is no secret Fergie had an uneasy relationship with previous chief executive Peter Kenyon. And this block on a spending spree is likely to present the first major test between the tough Scot and Gill following the Old Trafford chief�s appointment in September. Fergie fears United�s chase for glory could end in disaster unless a top-class frontman is drafted in. Diego Forlan has just two Premiership goals this season, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continues to nurse a knee injury. Chinese wonderboy DONG FANGZHOU is poised to join United. The 18-year-old striker will move from Dalian Shide in a deal worth �1m.
