This is a known RedDot bug. The sorting by date standard field desn't work properly in RedDot.
We ended up doing it via pre-executed script. All items (title, link and date) were placed in ASP array, and then sorted and displayed by an ASP script. I hope there is a better solution, but this is what we had to do.
