Using Application Portal can be different than the application portal usage with External Dynamics which is what Paul's article discusses. If you can access it consider this KB article from NA RedDot Community site http://www.reddotcommunity.com/rde/1115_673.htm. It may prove helpful determining what you should use on the particular application and scope of integration.
