You are over estimating the intelligence level of LiveServer. There is a "share" directory configuration in any LS installation and that is where the project import and export interact with files. It goes by the following path pattern:(you can change its location via system config GUI or startup.conf -- but why bother.)
share\projects\project_name\project_name_time_stamp_etc The above are all folder names. project_name_time_stamp_etc should contain the detailed sub-folders: content, contentdata, attributes etc. As long as you create a project using project_name, create a folder right underneath "share" with the same name and drop an export folder from anywhere, you should be able to use the "standard import" option and LS will pick the right folder for you.
