Thanks for all the help. I managed to create the xml by creating xml project variant. My problem now is how I can make the format better. I used a lot of parameters (say <page title="this" source="this" open="true"> etc). I used a lot of IF statements and these made each parameter printed in new lines. Though overall the structure is now correct.
I am also thinking how I could make the menu retain the display structure.
