Mea culpa. I had previously (and erroneously) loaded the pre-service
pack version and used the wrapper to install that. *But* I forgot to
remove the link in /tmp, so the install I was complaining about above
was the pre-SP version again.
When I relinked the link properly all was sweetness and light.
