sendmail-8.9.0

Has anyone compiled and installed sendmail-8.9.0 from the tarball?

Compiling and installing sendmail goes ok, but when I then tried
to install fetchmail-4.4.9-1.i386.rpm, it failed with a 
smtpdaemon is required by fetchmail. 

Ideas?
