I don't think there is an md rpm. If you want RAID-0 or
RAID-linear, you've got everything you need in the kernel
source. If you want RAID-1, 4 or 5, you need the
raid145-971022-2.0.31 patch from
ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/daemons/raid/. I think the
reason you couldn't access the site mentioned in the README
may be that you tried to access it via the Web - it is an
ftp server. But you don't need to go there anyway, you can
get the raidtools-pre3-0.42 package (which is the more
up-to-date version of the package mentioned in the README)
from the above source. See the Software-RAID mini-HOWTO for
more details.

One word of warning, however. I believe the RAID145 patches
fail on the 2.0.34 kernel sources, which come with RedHat
5.1. I think 2.0.33 will work, and 2.0.31 should definitely.
Of course, then you've got the problem that the RedHat
releases stepped from 2.0.30 (Release 4.2) (which has
significant problems for use with md) to 2.0.32 (Release
5.0), so you may not be able to get an appropriate
kernel-source rpm (5.0 is the best bet). Plus, the
linuxthreads package (which you will also need) has a major
problem with libc-5.3.12, and guess what version of libc
RedHat 4.1 and 4.2 use? Basically, from what I can discover,
RedHat don't know sh!t about RAID. You're probably better
off with Slackware.

Cheers,
