Situation:
I have a P233 with RH5.0 already installed.  I have mounted the CD-ROM
on /mnt/cdrom and added the following to /etc/exports:

---<snip>---
/mnt/cdrom         192.168.1.2(ro,no_root_squash)
---</snip>---

I have stopped and then started the NFS service by typing the following
in /etc/rc.d/init.d
'./nfs stop'
'./nfs start'

I have compiled the kernel to support both NFS and PLIP. I compiled
PLIP as a module (so that I can load/unload the module to load the lp
module). Then I typed: 'modprobe plip' and it detected it with no
problems. Then I typed: 'ifconfig plip1 192.168.1.1 pointopoint
192.168.1.2 up' and then I typed just 'ifconfig' to see if it worked ok,

which it did.

On the other end I have a TI TravelMate 5000 that is connected to the
233 via a PLIP connection.
(I am using a 'Null Parallel Cable' aka 'LapLink')

So I booted with the boot disk on the TI then loaded the supplemental
disk and followed the directions on both the install and the manual for
installing via NFS.

I entered in all the information (IP addresses, etc) then it attempted
to mount the 233's CD-ROM drive.
It came back with a dialog box saying: "mount failed: Invalid argument"
and underneath the dialog box it says:
"mount clntudp_create: RPC: Port mapper failure - RPC: Timed out

On tty2 it says:
---<snip>---
* mounting 192.168.1.1:/mnt/cdrom on /tmp/rhimage as type nfs
* calling nfsmount(192.168.1.1:/mnt/cdrom, /tmp/rhimage, &morejunk,
&junk, &moun
t_opt)
*          nfsmount returned non-zero
* calling mount(192.168.1.1:/mnt/cdrom, /tmp/rhimage, nfs, -1058209791,
0x80a4c4
8)
---</snip>---

On tty3, it says:
---<snip>---
<4>plip1: transmit timeout(1,80)
<4>plip1: transmit timeout(1,80)
<4>plip1: transmit timeout(1,80)
<4>nfs_read_super: not a socket
<4>plip1: transmit timeout(1,80)
keeps on going in no particular order...
---</snip>

Does anyone know an answer to my problem, or can direct me towards the
answer?
I have read the PLIP tips at redhat.com and the installation
instructions in the manual, and they have not helped.

Thanks for your help,
Aaron Walker
