I've heard of alot of nightmare stories about activation of an IDE channel
on a sound card with linux. Let me first say that I HAVE NOT DONE THIS
yet....but this is what i would like to do. Can ya'll help me?

I have a small primary hd. I also have a "hi-val" ide cdrom drive and a
MagicSound16 16-bit 3d sound card. This card has an IDE channel on it. I
currently have the 160mb hd and the ide cdrom on the primary ide chain on
my motherboard. My motherboard only has 1 ide chain on it. I wish to get
a hd to place on that motherboard ide chain in place of the cd rom and ove
the cdrom to the sound card.

People tell me they have problems doing this. What is the exact method i
should do things in so as to alleviate all problems.

System: RH 5.0, kernel 2.0.32 and i use RPM manager for everything and DO
NOT know how to "make" "make install", etc...becuase I do NOT have the
required files to compile ANYTHING on this machine...do to disk space
limitations--although for some reason glibc-2.0.5c is on the machine.
Typing "which make" comes back null.--so if there are packages, plz give
me the RPM names that i can pull off the cdrom. I do not have X on the
machine either...although I would love to play audio cdroms on this box, i
do not know how...

Thanks in advance.
