After sending my last post ("IPX still no-go"), I thought maybe I hadn't thrown in enough config information. So here's everything but the kitchen sink. I have two RH5/intel machines plugged into the same hub; I know that they can see each other over IP, since I usually have a telnet window open on machine B from machine A. Machine A: "fred" from /etc/nwserv.conf (comments omitted): 1 SYS /var/mars_nwe/sys rk 1 CDROM /mnt/cdrom kmr 2 FRED 3 auto 1 4 0x0 eth0 802.3 1 #<--Trying this with frame type auto, 802.2 or ethernet_ii hasn't worked either 5 0 6 0 7 0 10 99 11 99 12 SUPERVISOR adm * 15 99 top-secret 16 1 21 LP SYS:/PRINT/LP lp from /proc/net/ipx_interface: Network Node_Address Primary Device Frame_Type C0A80103 000000000001 Yes Internal None 00000000 00A02483587D No eth0 802.3 When I furst run nwserv, it only adds the first line above (the internal interface); I have to add the eth0 interface manually. I don't know why it's skipping my "4" line in nwserv.conf, but there aren't any errors showing up in the log file. Output of slist: Known NetWare File Servers Network Node Address -------------------------------------------------------------------------- FRED C0A80103 000000000001 Plugged into the same hub is another RH5 machine with identical settings and behavior, which also can see itself with slist but can't see anything else. Its ouput from slist and /proc/net/ipx_interface looks the same with different network numbers: [root@alice /etc]# cat /proc/net/ipx_interface Network Node_Address Primary Device Frame_Type C0A80126 000000000001 Yes Internal None 00000000 00A024155D87 No eth0 802.3 [root@alice /etc]# slist Known NetWare File Servers Network Node Address -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ALICE C0A80126 000000000001 Elsewhere on our net (same hub and several others) are several 95 and NT machines all of which can see each other over IPX using autodetect frame types (I don't know what the "autodetect" is deciding to use, and neither does anybody else here) but none of which can see either of my Linux boxes over IPX (although they can see them over IP). I'm using the version of mars_nwe that came with RH5, no mods outside of what's listed above. Can someone please take a look at this? I really need to make ipx work (damn 95) and I'm at a dead end. Even hints as to what MIGHT be wrong gratefully accepted. I know people have this working, so there must just be something dumb that I'm doing. Right? Right? Is there a packet sniffer for IPX?
