Greets. I've been on and off this list for about 1 month now, and it's been very interested, although I'm not quite used to _this high traffic_. On with the problems: When I booted into Linux (RH 4.0), I noticed when establishing a ppp connection, I could use fetchmail, which resulted in it grabbing mail, then flushing it off the server, yet pine's INBOX didn't have any mail. I checked w/ my other mailclient, mail, and I got the same result. I've never had this problem before. The mailspool seems to be empty, I'm running Sendmail 8.8.8, and fetchmail 4.3.5. When I booted, my booting stuck to mounting /dev/hdb1 for several minutes, might I have some physical diskdamage? Now, some of you might question why I have such an old RH, some not. I have a an RH 4.2 disk sitting beside me, getting some dust on it, since I for some ununderstandable reason cannot mount the CD-Rom. It's a plain ATAPI IDE 24x no name cd-rom, although I managed to find a sticker that says Vuego on it, somewhere in the back. The drive is connected as slave on IDE 2, according to the BIOS. Some people pointed out the drive should be as master, and I've tried changing the position of the IDE2 cable, but the BIOS still reports it as slave, mode 4. The bios, if you were wondering, is an Award Modular 4.51PG. Note that the CD-Rom works okay in win95. Third problem? Well, the infamous X. I'm running a Diamond Stealth ViRGE 3d 2000 Pro (4 MB), which doesn't like my old XFree 3.1.2, which came w/ the RH 4.0 CD. I've tried upgrading but with little success, I 've always lacked some important file. Downloading big files however isn't an option any longer, due to my overly large fonebills (I pay local fonecharges). X doesn't seem to detect my 4 megs, and even when I've forced it, I get 320x200 (640x480 virtual) on the SVGA server. The best I've been able to get is 640x480 on the VGA 16 server. Oddly enough, when running the SVGA server w/ custom settings, X detects 64k RAM, while the VGA16 server detects 256k RAM. This is quite confusing. Also, I'd much appreciate if someone could point me to a howto or website or whatever, which discusses the configuring of isapnptools to get to work with a PnP soundcard (ESS1868 chip). I'd like to impress people, who tend to rely a bit too much on MS products, yet like and require a GUI. Any help will be appreciated! regards, Domi [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- PLEASE read the Red Hat FAQ, Tips, Errata and the MAILING LIST ARCHIVES! http://www.redhat.com/RedHat-FAQ /RedHat-Errata /RedHat-Tips /mailing-lists To unsubscribe: mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] with "unsubscribe" as the Subject.
