The Window direct cable connection is a parallel port connection,
I believe, which has the added bonus of being incompatible with
Linux's PLIP support.

Unless I'm horribly mistaken, to connect them without a hub you'd need
a crossover token ring cable. (Similarly, if you wanted to connect
10/100BT Ethernet without a hub, you'd need a crossover ethernet
cable.) These are different then the cables used to connect to a hub.
For the pinouts, in case you wanted to make your own, see
http://www.netcomsystems.com/app_note/app003.htm. You can
surely buy a crossover cable for some amount if Token-Ring ones
exist (ethernet ones would be much easier to find...).
