you're talking about gentoo (www.gentoo.org) it's the cat's ass (that's good) when it comes to keeping your software current, but it's got a steeper learning curve than a package-based distro like redhat since you do so much from scratch (ie. you build your own kernel from source, configure grub and pretty much everything else from a command line with a text editor) it's pretty cool if you like having that much control over your box and don't mind learning how to do everything (and i mean everything... but it's cool) the bonus however is that when a new software package like kde 3.1 (and 3.1.1 soon) comes out, you can install it on your gentoo system within a week, and there's no issues with redhat doing crazy stuff that breaks kde: http://www.mosfet.org/noredhat.html quite frankly, i found it surprising that kde-3.0.3 is the latest version available for redhat8 through up2date when 3.0.5 fixed many known bugs and 3.1 has been out for quite a while now. -- be ashamed to die until you have won some victory for humanity - horace mann, first president, antioch college. -- redhat-list mailing list unsubscribe mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list
