So I either have to patch the kernel for acl support or to change the allowed group number or think of something other. I'm really disappointed in linux having this "user in only 32 group" limitation.
AFAIK, it's not an uncommon limitation. Furthermore, some Unix protocols like NFS are even further limited; NFSv3 allows only 16 groups.
I believe that contrary to what's been said, the limitation exists only in the kernel. 2.6 will have a dynamically sized group set, so it won't suffer this limitation. However, some limitations will continue to exist, beyond the control of Linux developers.
