Don't even think that your age is a bar to learning a new system, it is
all down to your attitude of mind. I have a few years on you and enjoy the
challenge that 'playing' with Linux gives me. I dumped the M$ stuff years
ago and went for OS/2 as my main OS when ver 2.0 was released. Came across
Linux on a magazine cover disk some years ago and it has been on and off
my system in one version or another ever since.

The Unix basics are quite easy to pickup, get 'Unix in a Nutshell' from
O'Reilly for help with commands. I know 'man foo' will give you all you
need but it is really convenient to have all the stuff in one place. Learn
how to use one of the text based editors, I have stuck with vi ;-), but
there are others.

If your system is fairly a bog-standard windows box you shouldn't have
much trouble getting X running, you should then feel quite at home with a
Win95 lookalike GUI (assuming you get RH5.0 or similar).

The only real problem I have with Linux is getting Internet access set up.
I haven't cracked that one (Hence my use of OS/2 for email). I only got
the modem recently and had to use windross to access my ISP initially, but
having done that I got OS/2 connected and deleted win.

I would suggest you keep your Win system up and running for the time being
at least so you can continue to access the Net etc., use Partition Magic,
or similar, to set up your hard disk for a Linux partition and have a go.
