Though ppp works fine, when I'm connected, it changes my local machine's
hostname, i.e., when ppp isn't running the "hostname" command returns the
correct hostname, but once ppp is running the "hostname" command returns
the name of host I'm connected to. When I exit from ppp, the "hostname"
command goes back to returning the correct name.
This strangeness also affects the loading of applications. That is, when
ppp is running and I click on an icon to launch a new app, nothing
happens, it won't load. Clicking on the same application works fine when
ppp isn't running. I believe this is due to authentication failing
(because these apps aren't permitted to run on the remote machine to which
my local machine has been renamed).
Ideas?
