We had a similar problem here.  Eventually I noticed that Xconfigurator 
always highlighted "16MB" as the memory for the card.  I knew that 4MB was 
the "right" answer, but I was at a loss for alternatives, so I just 
accepted the 16MB number.  Everything has worked fine since then.  If 
anybody has an explanation, I'd love to hear it.
