I haven't found that it matters.
I've got the 4000N at my place. I've got several 4MP's and 5MP's
at the office, some with duplexors and some without. All with ethernet /
LaserJet interfaces, some older (vulnerable to STUPID DoS problems) and some
newer interfaces. Not had ANY trouble with any of them (talking to *NIX
systems, that is, more than a few security problems, though). I've always
set the remote queue to "lp" but I honestly don't think it matters. I think
it ignores the queue name entirely. It MIGHT do something different if you
have fancy duplexer or forms settings but I haven't found anything yet.
We (at Internet Security Systems) also did some research comparing
the integrated JetDirect cards with the autonomous JetDirect servers and
really didn't find any significant difference there (some good news and,
quite frankly, some bad news for HP back then a couple of years ago).
I guess that my problem in addressing your problem is that I have
yet to run into a JetDirect interface (integrate interface or standalone
server box) that hasn't worked. It should work and it confuses me that
it doesn't for you.
