Bob, Mikkel:

I definitely second that one. To know that you helped and
the solution was the right one not only benefits the poster
and the individual or individuals who solved it but the list
in general if the poster would just post the solution that
worked for them. Not only could it help someone just
receiving list mail that has the same problem but it makes
for a more complete archive for future similar problems and
a good footer or into to this mail list before getting on
should note to "please search the archives first before
posting as your question may have already been answered".
Along with a footer of how to unsubscribe as we have seen
here so often.

Bob,
This is a hard one. From a personal standpoint, I am more
interested is knowing that the problem was solved, then is
getting a
personal thanks if provided the answer. I don't know how
the others on
the list feal, but I would think a generic thanks to the
list stating
that the problem was solved, and what the solution was would
be a good
way to do it. This has the advantage of letting someone
else with the
same problem scan the archives and finding the answer.

I know I have some answers archived on my macine that
provide a
way of doing things that I haven't needed yet, but look like
they will
come in handy. (Now if only they were indexed better, so I
could find
them easyer...)
