Just curious how it could be worse than AOL?

A lot depends on what you are looking for, and other variables such as
how good the telco is, how good the quality of your line is, and what
level of reliablility, etc you expect. This kind of stuff varies by
area since Telocity has to partner with local telcos. Also, while
Telocity has some appealing stuff for Linux users, they are still a
low end consumer grade service. IOW, 'best effort'. This kind of thing
varies widely too.
For instance, I am with BellSouth DSL. If I had to rely on their mail,
and binary news groups, I would be an unhappy camper. But I don't, so
it doesn't effect me. My line is good, so my connection is stable.
