I knew I remembered this error. A quick search through the list archives
on Moongroup's site finally reminded me of where I saw it.

I don't know if it's still present in 2.2.19, but earlier 2.2 kernels
had a "Use multi-mode by default" option that says:

 Use multi-mode by default
 CONFIG_IDEDISK_MULTI_MODE
   If you get this error, try to enable this option.
   hda: set_multmode: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
   hda: set_multmode: error=0x04 { DriveStatusError }

   If in doubt, say N.

Granted, it's not the identical error, but it's close.

What about adding the "ideX=noautotune" option to Lilo (where X =
1,2,3,etc)? Or testing it by passing the command "linux ide1=noautotune"
at the lilo prompt. (Assuming that hdb is in fact ide1 and you are in
fact using lilo).

HTH,
