I totally agree with Harry. I just recently experienced this with a drive that was in the process of failing, but wasn't dead yet. I pulled a fresh drive out and installed RH7.2 on it, got it all ready to go, then halted the box, and added my old drive as a slave. Guess whose rootfs got mounted.... The OLD drive!
