actually i just figured that part out as i got that last email
the pid file didn't exist yet
and the service wasn't running
i was just trying to run it from the command line
ie # /usr/sbin/named -g

so now named is running
but i've got a new error when i type: "rndc status" :

"rndc: send remote authenticator: permission denied"

i tried removing the include line that calls for /etc/rndc.key
and replacing it with the contents of that file
but that didn't work

any suggestions?

did i mention i was running rh7.2?
