Linda's suggestions, above, are good ones. Additionally, try these:

Use the RedHat printer tool to set up or edit your printer configuration.
 Make sure that the rhs-printfilters.rpm is installed. This "converts" the data and 
prints it in the "proper" format.

Try a different driver selection -maybe just epson 9 pin, AND "play" with the 
resolutions also. You can add a number of different printers and configurations to 
printer tool, and then test them out with the "test" utility. The "help" has a useful 
"troubleshooting " section.
Make sure that you "restart" lpd each time you make a changer, or it doesn't take
