I think you have me (Rob) and the original author, Bob, confused.  But
maybe not.

You might be interested in checking out KRUD then.  Once you subscribe
( which is very modest charge IMHO) you get monthly update CDs mailed
to you.  It is not a solution for everyone, but it's a nice option.

One aspect to Bob's original email that occured to me this morning.
This is likely to draw some fire, but...why can't RedHat figure out a
solution like Microshlcok's Critical Upates mechanism?  A channel by
which urgent security and system updates could be grabbed.  A new
user who sees 240 megs of updates to download is likely to feel a
tad daunted.  Especially if they don't have a high bandwidth connection.
As a subscriber to RedHat's announcents list  and CERT's list I notice when
security problems come along and how to deal with them.  A novice
might not, but as they become more familiar with all the resources available
they would likely find a method that best fits they're situation.

The above paragraph is mostly me 'thinking out loud'.  I recognize it
would not be simple to set up such a system, let alone get people to use
is consistantly.
