Lots of people have some experience, some people have lots of experience.

Ok, there are a couple of things you can check here (some of which have
already been mentioned).  I have a similar setup and was at one point
receiving a similar error.  What I noticed was that the username used in
windows started with a capital letter, but the name passed to the Linux box
was sent all lower case.  When I'd setup the users on the Linux box; I'd
set them up with the first letter capitalized.  So you might want to make
sure that your usernames are setup correctly.  Beyond that, I found the
DIAGNOSIS.TXT file invaluable for troubleshooting my Samba problems  There
is a copy included with Samba or you can view it off their website, under
"Documentation" -> "Older (but hopefully still valid) misc docs" ->
"Diagnosing Samba".  I'd give a direction link to the doc but they've got
bunches of mirrors and you should select the mirror closest to you for
optimal connection.
