I'm not familiar with the modem you are using. (You mention PCI card, I 
assume you mean a PCMCIA card?) From a quick google search, it appears 
that this is not a "winmodem" and should require no modules to work under 
linux. I'd guess you can remove all the modem related modules from 
modules.conf. Try commenting them out, and see if you can use the modem.

I don't often use the computer to play music cds myself. That said, I've 
found the stock drivers for my soundblaster live card to do an acceptable 
job.
