Hello Redhat list:

I recently discovered through trial and error and a few visits to
netcraft.com that I cannot resolve the names of servers running a
Windows operating system through my bellsouth.net dsl connection.

I'm using Redhat 7.3 and connecting through a Draytek router which
connects to a USB modem. The Draytek spoofs bellsouth into thinking it
is talking to a Win machine. I realized this weekend after trying to
connect to my insurance company's website, then failing to connect to
barnesandnoble.com that something was amiss when I could connect to
those sites using the win machine in another room. I also cannot receive
ads from doubleclick.net (what a shame!), but I do get a pesky dialog
every few minutes at wired.com letting me know that I can't resolve
ads.doubleclick.net.

This is what I know: the Blue Cross Blue Shield site uses Bellsouth's
servers running Windows 98, bn.com runs Windows 2000 server and
ad.doubleclick.net runs Windows 2000 server. I also found a couple of
other sites which I cannot resolve -- all running Windows 2000 server.
Every site which I cannot connect to uses a Windows product. I have not
encountered this problem with any site running Unix or Linux or Solaris.

I've tried several browsers including Netscape 6.1, Mozilla .9, and the
Konquerer packaged with Redhat 7.3.

Has anyone ever heard of this kind of problem. Is it a case of the
Curse of Clippy because I deep-sixed Office. :-)

Cheers,

Susan
