Judging from my own desktop experience, 64MB should be easly possible when
using a small Window Manager and not much else, but it looks like I should
definitely go for a machine that *can* have more (many of the oldies max out
at 64MB or even 40MB...). Good to know.

The laptop will be connected directly to a good stereo, so I'd expect the
laptop's sound card to be the weakest link in that chain... ;-) On the other
hand, most internet radio stations (definitely of the ones I'm after)
broadcast with limited bandwidth anyway, so the sound isn't too good - but
hey, at least I can listen to them...

I'm actually thinking of using something like mpg321 (or what its name was)
from the command line if necessary, though xmms would be a lot easier to
use. Hm...

Well, at least one of the stations I specifically want to listen to doesn't
offer RealAudio streams (Windoze only), so I've already experimented with
that. 'mplayer' fits the bill perfectly - it does need a 'doze DLL to do so,
but once you have that one, it works well for WMP streams. Unfortunately, I
have to start it manually, as Mozilla freezes if I try to use mplayer as
helper application.

Definitely far too expensive... :-{

So I'll put that one down as upper limit for now - thanks for the data
point!

Most certainly will, though it might be some time before this goes life, as
I don't want to hurry buying that thing.

Cheerio,
