Actually chkconfig also lists services handled by xinetd  so you will need to look in /etc/xinetd.d too

Yes, in /etc/rc.d/init.d there is a script for each of the services
listed in chkconfig --list output.

You can "view" those scripts and read the comments.

Also if you do a "makewhatis" and a "updatedb"
Then you can use the "locate" and "man -K" or "man -k"
commands to find relevant information.
