My ISP just made available some 56K modems. I'd like to buy one to match,
so when I asked them what they had, the response was:
"They are ascend units that support K56_flex protocol. Any 'real' modem
other than a US Robotics brand should work. By 'real', I mean any but
a 'win-modem'. These use the CPU to do much of the modem's work and
often times have problems that are all but impossible to solve because
the problem is in the software drivers itself."
Is "ascend" a brand name? What is 56K_flex, as opposed to what USR is using?
Any recommendations? Any modem I get has to work with W95, NT 4 and 5, and
Red Hat Linux 5.
Thanks.
