Ascend is a networking company - as far as I know, they do not make
modems for the individual buyer. However, K56_Flex is one of the two
56K standards, and is widely supported by a number of modem manufacturers.

USR supports (and in fact came up with) the competing standard, X2.

The two standards will soon be merged into a common standard, V.90.

I've been using a Zoom 56K Internal Faxmodem, with pretty good results
on Win 95 as well as Linux. This is a PnP modem, which however can be
set using jumpers to workin a non PnP mode,

Hope this helps
Murari.
