I tried setting up PPP last on on RH 5.0 (2.0.32 kernel). I got it to
dial, make the connection, set the default route, and everything.
Then, I set up my resolv.conf to make it use a server on the other side of
the connection. So far, so good. I look up a name, I get an IP address
back. So things are working, I think.
Until I try to telnet. Or ping. Or ftp. Or anything else other than
UDP. It appears that my TCP traffice, and ICMP traffic, was not working
through the PPP link.
I ran tcpdump to capture all packets, to see what was going on. I watched
all the name lookups, so I know UDP was working. My route was correct,
since I was able to get to nameserver not on my network.
netstat said the connection was established, but the only packets I saw
were the TCP ACKs, and nothing after that.
I've got ppp-2.3.3-2. I believe I've turned off the IPX stuff (smbd).
Is there anything else I need to disable (I installed everything)? Is
there a problem with this version of PPP? Has anyone else run into this
before?
Thanks.
Don
