Dear All,
I'm currently in Spain and am trying to set up a PPP dial-out from my very
recently setup RH5.0 box.
I've got an internal Dataflex PC Comms office 28.8 modem on COM3 (/dev/ttyS2
and cua2) for which I reset the IRQs (using auto_irq) on both /dev/ttyS2 and
/dev/cua2 in rc.serial.
I'm fairly confident that the modem is set up correctly as I can talk to it
& dial out using Kermit.
But...my current internet connection is through an account provided by a
Spanish bank, which I access through Infovia (an arrangement where you can
dial 055 from anywhere in the country to access your ISP or other service -
see http:://www.telefonica.es/infint/queesinf.htm though it will help if you
can read Spanish!).
The problem I have is that when I dial 055 using Kermit I get NO CARRIER
despite the fact that if I listen in on the phone I can hear what sounds
like a 'normal' dial-up conversation. I have, I think (it was some time and
several attempts ago) got a response on one occasion which looked like
CONNECT 28800 but I have not been able to repeat this.
I note that the PPP-Howto mentions passive PPP servers but I'm not sure if
that is what I've got here.
Win95 connects through what appears to be a normal PPP link with no Chap/Pap
on it.
I'd be really grateful for any help/suggestions or to hear of any other
(maybe Spanish which I can read ok and write with a lot of help from my
girlfriend) mailing lists for RedHat5.0 PPP.
TIA
