Hello,
Thanks to everyone who responded with the help and info on my PnP modem
last night and to pnpdump and isapnp. I finally got my Supra Express 56i
(PnP) to dial-out. I only had to take out my sounds card and networking
card--NE2000--, wipe the drive and reinstall RedHat5 again. I thought it
would be easier to have the bare minimum on hardware to get this modem
problem resolved (I guess the configs matter from setup, not just removing
hardware and rebooting, right?) Not a big deal, because I'm learning
alot--from many mistakes.
----The important stuff---
My ISP supports 56Flex and uses Windows NT4.0 on their server. I'm not
sure what I'm missing with the login process or configuration settings. I
am in X windows using the net configurator, Interface and activating the
ppp0 that I created. My modem finally has come to life. I hear it dialing
out and going through the connection process. I have a terminal window
opened and have entered the commands: " tail -f /var/log/messages " Here is
what I see there:
pppd[878]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/modem
pppd[878]: LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
pppd[878]: Connection terminated.
pppd[878]: Receive serial link is not 8-bit clean:
pppd[878]: Problem: all had bit 7 set to 0
pppd[878]: Exit.
I can finally connect with Minicom, but I have no idea what to do with
that (or what I can do with it). I tried to telnet, but I get a "host name
lookup failure." I get the same thing if I try to open up Netscape. If I
just enter the IP# of the web server, I get an error in netscape saying, " A
network error occurred: unable to connect to server (TCP Error: Network is
unreachable).... I have entered and saved the DNS servers that my ISP uses,
into the Network Configurator, Nameservers section.
Do I have to enable IP forwarding or what is it I need to do with my
configurations? It seems like TCP/IP isn't working. Pinging gives me a
"Network is unreachable".
Sorry for bugging with the problems and being long-winded on this one.
Any help will be greatly appreciated while I am searching for answers.
Sincerely,
Steven D Boozer
