Network is not connected, you can't do a telnet unless you get a good ppp
connection to the ISP.
I get the same thing if I try to open up Netscape. If I

Same thing here. No network connection, hence Network is unreachable.

Sorry I can't help you on the actual problem, clearing up the 7 bit versus 8
bit, but your not getting a good connection to the ISP.
