I am having trouble configuring ppp to work with all the
scripts, so I was told to try loging on with a single
command line. I am typing:
pppd connect 'chat -v "" ATDT2880044 CONNECT "" '

It does exactly the same thing as when I type 'pppd' though.
I dont know what the single quotes are for in the command
line. And I dont know if they should go at the end or where.
Also, dont I have to specify the DNS?

Anyway, the first time I try after I start the computer it
logs on for 10 seconds. Any time after that it dials and
makes different tones of static noises for about 30 seconds
and then says "No carrier". Does anyone know what either of
these problems is and how to fix them? Also, if I ever do
sucussfully log on, will I be told? Will it say "Connection
started" or something?

Thanks.
