I used to have PPP working well but decided to reinstall all of RH5 again from
scratch. Of course now things won't work well at all.
Local networking seems to be working fine. I am using a private Class C
address of 192.168.0.1 for my Linux box (jnclinux.jnc.com). Once the system
boots, the 'route' command shows me the following (not all columns shown):
192.168.0.0 * 255.255.255.0 U eth0
127.0.0.0 * 255.0.0.0 U lo
default jnclinux 0.0.0.0 UG eth0
I created a PPP0 interface using netcfg. I am able to successfully connect to
my ISP and /var/log/message shows me both the local and remote IP addresses
assigned to PPP0. Once connected, 'ifconfig' shows me the ppp0 interface. If I
run 'route' or 'netstat -r', the command hangs and shows nothing. I can 'ping'
myself and the remote IP address but cannot ping any other address.
What the heck did I miss? I've tried deacticvating and inistalling eth0 and
ppp0 and then resinstalling and reactivcating but to no avail. I know this
should work because it used to work well. Now it won't!
Aside from anything else, maybe someone can confirm for me what the eth0 and
ppp0 settings should be in netcfg.
