Well, I've tried everything I can think of. Whenever I try to run any number
of dialers, connectors, scripts, etc, absolutely nothing happens. No errors,
nothing. Occasionally I get a device busy error, but that's about all. In the
/var/lock directory, I have LCK..modem after startup. I delete the file, and it
comes back after reboot. This is clearly not a solution. Even when deleted, the
pppd does absolutely nothing. Originally, I configured pppd with gppp, and it
worked fine on the first try. However, I did not know how to disconnect, and shut
down without doing so. I assume this to be the root of my problem. I've run
killall pppd after the fact, to no avail. I even took the trouble to re-install
Linux ( I hadn't made any significant changes yet), which cleared the LCK, but it
promptly reappeared when I tried to run pppd. Any ideas? Much obliged.
