2 things to try first:

1.  Make sure you specify the I/O address in hex (e.g. 0x300, not simply
300).

2.  If that fails, install the system without the network card drivers.
Make sure you install the kernel source also, you will need this later.
:-).  Once the system is up and running, log in as root and recompile
your kernel.  When you run "make config", make sure you specify the
NE2000 driver, and answer 'y' (instead of 'm').  This will compile the
driver into the kernel, instead of leaving it as a loadable module
(which the default Red Hat kernels use).

Often, this may be enough.  If that fails, you have one of those dodgy
NE2000 clones, which you'd have to either read the Ethernet How To for
hints on things to try, or return them for a refund.
