In case this is not obvious, you can't use a plain serial cable, you
must use a null modem cable or adaptor in this application.  Also the
serial cable shouldn't be over 25 ft in length or you may burn out
your ports.

Otherwise, your principals are sound. You may have to tweak the Red
Hat chat scripts since they were designed to deal with initializing
modems and such.

Also remember that the network number you choose, in this case
192.168.1.x must be different than your local ethernet network if you
use one to get the routing correct.  In this case you are using an
entire class C for these two IP addresses, normally a waste; but, in
your situation is probably no biggy.
