I use the "serial cable" for login until now. I use minicom and I insert
a new line in "inittab" file.
All was OK. All the computers are in the same room.
Where can I read how to change the chat script ?
The server is a router. It have now 3 interface : eth0 , eth1 and ppp0.
There is a local network with IP from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.10 but I
have to add some computers useing ppp. The router will have a multi-serial
card.
Now I want to link only one useing a normal serial port.
Thank you very much!

must use a null modem cable or adaptor in this application. Also the
serial cable shouldn't be over 25 ft in length or you may burn out
your ports.Otherwise, your principals are sound. You may have to tweak the Red
Hat chat scripts since they were designed to deal with initializing
modems and such. Also remember that the network number you choose, in this case
192.168.1.x must be different than your local ethernet network if you
use one to get the routing correct. In this case you are using an
entire class C for these two IP addresses, normally a waste; but, in
your situation is probably no biggy.
