I have been having a similar problem:
I know that the chat script is getting me logged on the the ISP ( i see the
welcome banner)
it recieves the ppp streem, but it never gets the validation, dynamic IP, ...
I have found the if I enable pap I get LESS in /var/log/messages.
I am not recieving the auth codes/messages for MSCHAP80.
I know that the Options file is being read
I am not using minicom I used X to configure.
I have lots more config info and /var/log/messages for any one that is
interested or might be in the know.
