Good point. I remember hearing that Pettitte was "insulted" by a $10m one-year 
offer, and then he signed for $5.5m plus incentives, so we need to be careful 
about buying into rumors too much -- even if it's fun.

If it's true, because this is ACCORDING TO HOLLEY, who I'm not sure is

I guess sometimes it's too much to expect people who don't live in the real 
world to understand the real world. He turned down the best offer he was going 
to get, and if he turns down the second-best offer, then it's time to move on.

Michael Holley, on EEI, suggested this morning that his "moles" tell him that 
Varitek would rather sit out this year than accept the Red Sox current offer.
