Lost in the story of the Red Sox collapse last night was a screw-up that
I've never seen before in the major leagues. When the Red Sox recorded
the second out in the sixth inning, the entire infield and the pitcher
walked off the field, thinking the inning was over. They got all the
way to the dugout before somebody told them that the inning wasn't over
yet. It was a pretty funny situation. Even Eckersley was saying he had
never seen anything like it before. Obviously their lack of attention
to the game came back to haunt them in the later innings. I'm glad I
decided to go to bed early.
