I always liked Nomar. The guy always played hard while he was here.
Always hustled, always gave everything, and carried some pretty bad
teams for a while. In contrast to Manny, who dogged it down the line on
every ground ball he ever hit, Nomar always ran them out.
It got ugly in the end. The media hated the guy and they beat the crap
out of him. I think that really tarnished his image, maybe more than it
should have.
I was happy to see the crowd give him an extended standing-O the other
night, and had I been there I would have been cheering along with them.
Steve

Here's what I'm saying. John had a long lost of reasons why he
hated Nomar: "not a team player" "phoney" etc. And the suddenly Nomar is
"a good guy" and "humble".
And John is not alone in making these value judgements about the
personalities of ball players. We hear these kinds of statements all
the time.
I'm saying that all these statements, the good and the bad, are
crap. We don't have any idea what these guys are really like, and I'd
were smart we'll accept the fact that we can't know. We are always
viewing these guys through the image that their publicist creates for
us.
So I think it's fine to judge these guys based on their on field
contributions, but beyond that we're just being played.
